THE MOUSE / 2012 / 26' / HD /
Directed by Bigert and Bergström
The Mouse is a documentary with a strong sense of form and a poetic tone - a tribute to a small and somewhat overlooked animal. The film deals with the complex and contradictory position of the mouse in our lives.
A mouse runs into a labyrinth.Whilst roaming, the mouse enters into scenes that shows different aspects of the relationship between mouse and man, from historical and contemporary angles.
Bigert and Bergström, in their inimitable style, present this tiny creature from a variety of perspectives: from maligned scavenger to revered God, from invaluable scientific research victim to a unique and controversial musical instrument...
The relationship between mice and men began 10,000 years ago, when humans became resident and the mouse saw the opportunity to steal food and warmth from us. Today, the mouse has a broad and important impact on our everyday lives. Without the mouse, religion could be paltry and bleak, and our knowledge about genetics, space science and make-up far less evolved. But above all, our lives would potentially be a lot shorter. Bigert & Bergström wish to thank all mice, with the greatest of respect and reverence, with this documentary.
